Library Resources

Our well stocked libraries support the curriculum and the reading programmes in our schools while encouraging students to carry out research at home.

Roots School System central computerised library is home to over 10,000 fiction and non-fiction books – ideal for leisure and satisfying a thirst for knowledge! We also have a range of academic and curriculum support reading, additional reading, story reading, information packed CD ROMs, subject related magazines, and Internet access supported by a mass of useful web addresses to help students track down what they need. A mass of practical and inspiring careers information completes this valuable resource centre.

Your child will have easy access to the library: Junior school students have free access on a rota basis, RCI

2007 – 2008 Year of Reading
Whether they’re researching information for homework, taking a break in the world of fiction, or learning how to
build a rocket, reading is one of the most productive, educational things your child can do. It helps them to learn, improves their writing and widens their understanding of the world around them. Encourage your child to become a reader now – and they’ll be learning for life!

students are encouraged to use the library resources during private study periods, and all students can use the library at break times and after school until 4.00pm at designated campuses.

As well as being encouraged to select books to read at home, students in roots school work on “The Reading Wheel” and the ‘reading caterpillar’: a scheme that encourages reading books from different genres and develops comprehension skills with relevant follow-up work. We also encourage participation in activities such as “World Book Day”, “Roots Reading Week” and the school’s own “Rootsians Read Regularly (RRR) Club”.

Our dedicated librarians, will ensure that your child feels comfortable in their library and will help them make best use of it by demonstrating how to use various library catalogues and index systems and the school/college library software.
