Roots Students
stun world academia!
ISLAMABAD, Feb 22: Building on their brilliant performance, Roots School System boys and girls brought shining international students in the O and A level examinations of the University of Cambridge.
The university of Cambridge International Examinations (CIE), acknowledging the distinctions, presented awards to 45 high achieving students from Islamabad here on Thursday.
The High Achievers Award Ceremony, which was organised by the British Council Islamabad, recognised the phenomenal success of the young and talented Pakistani students by giving away awards to them under the categories of “Top in the World’, ‘Top in Pakistan’, and ‘Top in Islamabad’.
As many as 55 O level students from all over Pakistan topped in the world in June and November 2006 Cambridge examinations. Compared with three A level students who topped in 2005, nine A level students from Pakistan were among the high Achievers in the world 2006.
Two cash awards of 500 pounds each sponsored by Cambridge International Examination were given to Hira Yousaf for the top O level student in Islamabad and syeda Saba Zehra Zaidi for the top A level student in Islamabad.
CIE Chief Executive Ann Puntis and Group Chief Executive of Cambridge Assessment Simon Lebus Presented the prizes to Islamabad’s exceptional students who achieved high marked.
Student from Roots School System, who rose to heights in an individual Cambridge International Examination were Aqsa Zulfiqar, Qurt-ul-Ain Ijaz, Kiran Ayesha, Farhan Shahid and Gohar Javaid Warraich were some of the Edexcel High Achievers in the world in subjects like Pure Mathematics, History and Biology, A level students Zohra Riaz Noor from Islamabad excelled in Law.
“Staggering nine A level top students are a fantastically achievement. It is the fantastically good record of teachings that bring unbeatable results,” said Simon Lebus.
This was followed by an equally spectacular award ceremony to recognised GCE, ACCA and University of London High Achievers.

All Rootsian who secured top positions in 'O' and 'A' Level examinations in the world and distinguish achiever in the FA, Fsc , SSC examinations of all the boards were conferred with Presidential Award and cash prize of Rs 50,000 for each subject in a ceremony held for High Achievers. Federal Minister for Education Lieutenant General (R) Javed Ashraf Qazi was the chief Guest on the occasion.The ceremony was hosted by the Federal Ministry for Education at the National Library Islamabad Riffat Mushtaq , Founder Director Roots School System , Khadija Omair, Director External programme, and Chaudhry Faisal Mushtaq Director Roots School System, were also present at the occasion.
Those who recieved awards for securing top positions in the world in 'O' Level Examination of Edexcel & Cambridge International Examination UK 2006 include Gohar Javaid Warriach (Straight 10 As in Physics & Chemistry), Qurat ul Ain Ijaz (St 8A's in Chemistry & Mathematics)
Samad Khurram secured st 7A's in 'A' Level Cambridge International Examination 2005 and topped in the world in Thinking skills. Samad has been awarded a full scholarship of US $250,000 BY Harvard University for a four year degree programme.
Presently he is on the Dean's list and declared at the second best English Parliamentary in entire North America. He has also been awarded by the Harvard Foundation. Samad has also been selected as the best physicist from entire Pakistan for the physics Olympaid 2005.
Asad Zaidi secured st 5A's in 'A' Level and has topped in the world in General paper.
Addressing on the occasion the minister paid rich tributes to the students, their teacher for nurturing such brilliance.

Top Achievers
On Wednesday November 8, 2006, Roots College international arranged a seminar and award ceremony for its undergraduate students in economics, accounting, finance and law. This seminar was presided over by Rosemary Gosling, the external study director of the London School or Economics and Political Science, UK. Director Roots College International Mrs Khadija Omair, in her welcome address, highlighted the Roots perspective of intellectual excitement, academic achievements, excellence, challenging learning environment, creativity and innovation. She told the audience that the college is preparing students for five international examinations from United Kingdom, which includes 'O' levels, AS & A Levels, BSc and LLB.
BSc students, who graduated from Roots in 2006, are pursuing higher education in the world's top universities while some are working with the highest paid undergraduate employers of the world. Speaking on the occasion, Rosemary Gosling congratulated the top achievers and highlighted the role of British Council in the conduct of these examinations. The British Council conducts examinations for all these qualifications and ensures quality and value of the degree. Gosling explained that the achievements of the Roots students are highly impressive, as these students have competed with students from all around the world. She praised the quality of teaching and achievements of the students.
She informed that the University of London was founded in 1836 and has 34,000 international students from 180 countries.
Gold medal was awarded to Uzair Saeed Quershi for obtaining 1st class honours in Bsc Accounting and Finance. Uzair is working with the top most financial company in London, Pricewater Coopers. Jamal Janjua and Faran Naeem were awarded medals for obtaining 2-1 degree. Amara Khalid and Ayesha Bano attained two distinctions each. Hina Imran, Muneeba Haleem, Habibah Anis, Quratul Ain Tariq, Khowla Shoaib, Asim Waseef, Ali Kiyani and Qasim Hameed attained one distinction each. Sadia Nawaz, Fahad Chaudhry, Maria Niazi and Kiran Nadeem were awarded merit certificates while Anum Mazhar Abbasi was awarded medal for attaining top position in Pakistan in Public Law.
Ayesha Amjad, Sumaira Khalid, Syed Ali, Hassan Abduallah and Shaqaib Arsalan were given merit certificates for obtaining credits in the LLB examinations. It was an impressive ceremony in which a number of students gave beautiful presentations on their years of study at Roots.
